Trent Reznor is a genius

I have liked NIN since Pretty Hate Machine and have been a fan from The Downward Spiral. It wasn't until recently that I have really been interested in what Trent Reznor has had to say. And NIN has waved good-bye.

Now, the NIN hotline is offering a free download of The Downward Spiral live!
(The amount of quality camera angles and editing is impressive.)

Halloween

My favorite holiday.
The Celtic festival of Samhain; "summer's end" and beginning of the "darker half" of the year.

Growing up, Halloween was bonded to American Paranoia by the poisoned candy scare.

The poisoned candy scare was a moral panic in the United States during the 1970s and 1980s regarding the threat that children could be in danger of ingesting razor blades, needles, or poison introduced to candy by tampering, especially during traditional Halloween trick-or-treating. Apart from one incident—actually an act of premeditated murder by a trick-or-treater's father—there have been no recorded incidents of deliberately poisoned candy during Halloween or any similar occasion.

Hard Work Rewards Are A Myth

Lebanese Hummus

A chief component to Israel's revisionist history of Palestine and the surrounding areas (known to Zionists as Greater Israel) has been cultural imperialism.
Where do Israel's falafel and hummus come from? Poland?

Recently a group of Lebanese chefs have fought back. They prepared a massive plate of hummus weighing over two tons that broke a world record organizers said was previously held by Israel — a bid to reaffirm proprietorship over the popular Arab dip.

Now I am in the mood for some hummus!

America's Next Top Minstrel Show

Tyra Banks is an insane egomaniac. That's a given. America's Next Top Model is a joke. Also a given. Like car crashes, they are both amazing to watch.
This past week's episode took Tyra and her gang of munchkin models to a whole new level. Tyra had all the girls do blackface!

It was amazing just how mindblowingly racist Tyra and the girls could be... all in the name of enlightened anti-racism, of course.

The Daily Show + Palestine

Mustafa Barghouti and Anna Baltzer were on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart talking about Palestine. It was a pretty short and timid segment.
The show was overwhelmed with angry emails and phone calls prior to the appearance and almost cancelled. During the taping the show had it's only heckler in 11 years (some Zionist shouted "Liar!" at Barghouti explaining the Palestinian refugee diaspora.

The Daily Show edited out discussion of:
(1) the U.S. role in aiding Israel, (2) the lack of adequate coverage in mainstream U.S. media, and (3) the Palestinian-led movement for Boycott / Divestment / Sanctions to nonviolently pressure Israel to comply with international law.

It is important that The Daily Show receive letters in support of having guests on who do not tow the American Zionist line on Palestine.

Don't Aim For the Chest

The maker of Taser stun guns has advised law enforcement agencies to avoid hitting suspects in the chest ("to minimize controversy").

First of all, it makes no sense to NOT aim for center mass when trying to hit a target. What are you going to aim for? The person's index finger?!

As (rightwing) blog NUGUN correctly put it:
"Tasers should be an alternative to lethal force. However, instead they have become the means of forcing submission. Even when dealing with non-violent individuals. It’s Taze first ask questions later. If someone is not immediately being obedient to every whim of the officer – taser!"

Read Josh Fernandez

Everyone knows the hilarity of Metal Inquisition, fourfour, and the like. I got a new blog to add to the list!

This cat is fuckin' funny. On top of that, I knew him back in the day.

World Cup Oakland?

Oakland wants my support for candidacy to be selected for the U.S. World Cup Bid.

I love the beautiful game and I would love to see world class games played in my city!.. But where would these matches be held?
The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum?!?!?!?
That place is horrendous for watching soccer games. It is built around a baseball diamond which just puts the seats far away from and at odd angles to the pitch.

C'mon, if you want my support for World Cup in Oakland, you are better off holding them at Oakland Tech or Mosswood Park.

Twitter, Tortuga, and The Feds

Remember when everyone praised Twitter and those brave Iranians tweeting for freedom?

The court required the government to show probable cause for the raid/search on Tortuga House. Instead, the pigs released a document that listed items confiscated from Tortuga House during the raid to support the validity of the search warrant that authorized the raid—which included photos taken by the FBI of anarchist stickers & posters.
So, the reason for a raid was the evidence of anarchist materials found during the raid? Wow, Minority Report.
Furthermore, Tortuga House was told they could question the validity of the search AFTER any indictments are handed out!

Wired has picked up on the raid and reported on it.

Striking Gold with Cold Cave

Never before has the transition from sXe HC kid to adult hipster been chronicled so well as with Wes Eisold. I believe this simply to have to due with technology and people's obsession with tracking others on the internet. (Face it, Mike Judge's fall from worhsipped idol wasn't available for all to witness so we continue to envision him Bringin' It Down with maybe a hint of Old Smoke. Likewise, technology wasn't present enough throughout Justin Pearson's musical journey for us to have caught on during Struggle and hold tight through The Locust and onto whatever insanely hip thing he is up to after Some Girls.)

It is pretty formulaic and I know dozens of people who have followed the same path.
Start out as a sXe HC kid. Move to being a non-sXe jaded HC kid. Branch out musically and indulge in drugs. Try to distance yourself from the musical constraints of HC but still keep that punk essence. Finally, attempt to completely divorce yourself from HC/punk and imitate your non-punk musical idols. Gold!

With all that said, Cold Cave has got some bangers and I have enjoed most of Eisold's projects (except XO Skeletons which I felt was some inside joke I wasn't high enough on angel dust to get).

How did he go from AN to a dead-on Ian Curtis imitation?!

Pig Infiltrator: Richard Greelis

Ex-cop Richard Greelis wrote a book, "Cop Book." In it, he details infiltrating anarchist groups.

"The anarchists expected law enforcement to infiltrate their ranks, and they had vouching precautions to prevent this, but the police did it anyway. As the convention drew neared and the Welcoming Committee's recruitment continued to wane, the vouching process became lax and finally disintegrated, since they couldn't risk scaring off any potential protesters."

"Rather than sending in cops--who typically look, dress, smell, act, and talk like cops--we sent in sources who were younger, better looking, and willing to work, either for dismissal of drug charges or simply for money."

CA: Buy Your Ammo before 2/1/11

AB962, the bill that would restrict ammunition sales in California was signed into law by Governor Schwarzennegger.

This measure would require vendors of handgun ammunition to keep a log of information on handgun ammunition sales (including purchaser's fingerprints) and require the face to-face transfer of ammunition sales.

It goes into effect February 1, 2011.

Supporting and promoting non-violent civil disobedience is not protected speech.

_____

I immediately think of the rightwingers and their whining teabagging "movement" who so fear imaginary government repression that never comes down on their heads.

They are such underdogs... They had an entire network dedicated to promoting them (which can constitute a crime) and that pressured other networks to offer them coverage.

Use Twitter: Get Busted!

FBI anti-terrorism agents raided the Queens home of anarchist, Elliot Madison, charged with tweeting protesters with instructions on how to evade police at the G-20 summit.

41yr old Madison had been charged with hindering prosecution, criminal use of a communication facility and possessing criminal instruments... Which means he did NOT carry out any illegal street actions. He used computers to give information to potential protestors.

I love how all media accounts call Madison a "self described anarchist" as if it wasn't a legit political label/ideology.
I love how the Feds "seized" anarchist literature from Madison's home. Wow, it must be dangerous stuff.
So, do you think Fox News was arrested and had computers seized for directing Tea Bagger protestors?

I Hope The Serve Beer In Hell FAIL

The film adaptation of rape fiction writer Tucker Max was released and appears to be failing critically and financially.
Good.

Max is a douchebag who refuses to accept any responsibility for the culture he produces.
Max’s stories succeed on orchestrating sexual conquests that are increasingly outrageous, drunk, dubiously legal, painful, objectifying, and embarrassing to his sex partners. In order to continue to one-up himself, Max intentionally pushes the line of consent—getting drunker, getting her drunker, leaving his sex partners to fend for themselves—naked—on the street, hiding his friend with an undisclosed video camera in his closet while they’re doing it.

Max's message to women protesting his work regarding consent/rape:
"Dude, I mean, the discussion about where consent lies and doesn’t lie is an important one, and should be had, but this is not the fucking forum. And, uh, and that’s never been an issue for me, so, I don’t know man, I feel like if that’s an issue to you, that’s great, and you should pursue it, but pursue it with the people who it needs to be pursued with. And not with me.”

Other Tucker Max gems:
“Your gender is hardwired for whoredom.”
“Fat girls aren’t real people.”
“Get away from me or I’m going to carve a fuck hole in your torso.”
“Rape’s not funny, but murder can be.”

Check out his oh-so-clever use of racism as well.

9th Wonder, The Teacher

Recently Gladys Knight proved her irrelevance by hating on hip hop. Big time producer, 9th Wonder, issued a response. In it, he harkened back to the days when rap provided more than entertainment:

It was because of artists like Public Enemy, KRS-One, Brand Nubian, and A Tribe Called Quest that I heard names such as Carter G. Woodson, Medgar Evers, Steve Biko, Kwame Toure’, Marcus Garvey, Fannie Lou Hamer, Shirley Chisholm, or ANYBODY outside of Martin Luther King and Harriet Tubman in public schools. These artists spoke about our elders in song, whether using the funk and soul records, or telling stories and mentioning names. From 1988 to 1993, black teens’ enrollment in college, especially HBCUs, rose to 45% because of the nature of the arts; from the African Medallions, to the Malcolm X t-shirts, the African-American College Alliance shirts Martin Lawrence wore on Def Comedy Jam, to School Daze, to the most powerful hour in black TV, The Cosby Show and A Different World. “Droppin’ Knowledge” if you will was made to be a “cool” or “in-crowd” thing. Unfortunately, the powers that be were against Hip-Hop being used as a NEW vessel to open the eyes of black kids and remind them to honor the struggles of the Civil Rights Movement of the 60’s. It is very odd that around the same time, a more negative form of hip-hop was being PUSHED to the forefront, so our elders could turn their heads away from what we were REALLY trying to say, and divide us as ALWAYS.

It is interesting to read someone point out the material effect "conscious" hip hop had on Black culture.

Amazing. Fascism plain and simple. Wilhelm Reich couldn't provide a more excellent illustration.
Truth, reason, logic, and materialism can provide no meaningful counter to such positions because these riled up emotions are not arrived at by any rational thought. Nor do they seek it.

Hannity's oh-so-well thought out ideas remind me of another recent example.
Egypt's killing of all pigs worked out so well for them.

Russell Weiner founded the Paul Revere Society with his father.
The goals of the organization are 1) deportation of all illegal immigrants and closing of the borders, 2) eliminating bilingual education, 3) ending affirmative action and 4) support for 'traditional' marriage.
