The Pack on The Misfits and Vans

An interesting SXSW interview with The Pack.

They mention listening to The Misfits, that they ain't punk rock but know what it is, and how Vans is actin' lame on em afraid of alienating their White consumer base.

Attn: Food Network!

The Food Network has shows about almost everything. I have seen shows for pet food.
Yet, they have no shows for vegetarians/vegans!!!

I think this is a definite market they are missing out on. They could play up the health angle as well as show how many treats can be animal free.
I realize their core advertisers may not like it. However, they would be able to get new companies buying up that ad space.

I have emailed The Food Network regarding this void in their schedule but got no response.
Apparently, they only accept proposals from television production companies with national or major market production credentials.

I think my dime, Mel, would be a FAB host and producer of such a show!!
Just check out some recent creations of hers:

Our friend Shaudi should also be highly considered for such a gig!

royalties

I like that new Ne-Yo song and video "Because Of You" but I think he might owe Michael Jackson some royalties for biting so hard.

Hollywood Loves Rape

...but Jello Biafra doesn't!

Jello Biafra condemned his former bandmates in the Dead Kennedys for licensing their classic song, "Too Drunk to Fuck" to the upcoming Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double feature, Grindhouse.
Jello's condemnation is due to the placement of the song in a rape scene during 'Planet Terror':

"Tarantino himself is pointing a gun at a disabled amputee woman's head yelling "Dance, Bitch!" as the Nouvelle Vague cover of "Too Drunk to Fuck" plays from a boombox. The terrified woman later "wins" by killing Tarantino, but that excuse does not rescue this at all. I wrote every note of that song and this is not what it was meant for."

Big ups to Jello for at least speaking out against this.

Hollywood obviously loves rape.
Almost every major movie inserts an act of unconsensual sex into it.

This is probably not surprising me until one starts to take note of every nonconsensual sex act in film.
(Just recently I saw 300 which inserted a rape scene into the story that wasn't even in the book or the historical story!)

The book Cunt does a great job of bringing this to light and explaining it... as well as offering some ways to act against Hollywood's love of rape.

Fuck Hollywood!
Fuck Grindhouse! Do not go see this film!

A lot of interest has been placed on the Spartans' physique in the film 300.
Yahoo has headed that interest.

Anarchy in the Bay Area!

The weekend is here!
Bookfair! BASTARD Conference! anti-war/occupation protests!

With so many of us gathered, it is our duty to make new friends/comrades, build, organize, and act!
I know hanging out and buying shit is fun but revolution is not based on your bookshelf.

I would love to see an anarchist contingent surprising the anti-imperialist protest in Walnut Creek!

bananas = terrorism

BOYCOTT CHIQUITA BANANAS!!!!

Chiquita Bananas paid about $1.7million to right-wing Colombian militia, United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC).

The AUC has been responsible for some of the worst massacres in Colombia's civil conflict and for a sizable percentage of the country's cocaine exports. It is designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the US government.

Chiquita has been ordered to pay a $25million fine.
Even with that the government has been very easy-going with Chiquita.

The company was alledged to have also paid the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) for protection as well but this was not proven.

How stupid do they think we are??

All the headlines are declaring that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has confessed to involvement in the 9/11 attacks and pretty much everything else.

Doesn't anybody remember that they torture you at Guantanamo until you confess?!
I am sure this is handy since the Bush administration is under heavy criticism for firing Federal Judges considered not "loyal" enough to Bush (via a clause in the Patriot Act).
Voila! All of a sudden the US has captured THE MASTERMIND of it all!.. Well, they captured him long ago.
_____

After all the demands Israel and friends put on Palestinian Authorities in order to establish dialogue and release millions of dollars to Palestinians, the Palestinians ironed out what was considered a workable situation.
So Israel now says it will just refuse to work with the Palestinian coalition.

And the Palestinians are the ones never acting in good faith or agreeing to work things out?!

If Palestinians turn to diplomacy by gun, you can bet the fault will be placed on them.

Captain America?

It's Frank Castle aka The Punisher.
Marvel hasn't said anything upon releasing the image.

The Punisher was reluctantly allowed to fight alongside Captain America's Secret Avengers in the Marvel Civil War.
At the end of the Civil War, The Punisher is shown picking up the Captain America's mask after he surrendered.

Gather is (nearly) over

Radical hardcore band Gather is breaking up.

For the past 3 years, Eva, Dustin, Allan, and Randy (and Katie) have toured the US and Europe spreading anarchy, animal liberation, as well as making douchebags upset.
With the departure of the unreplaceable Allan, the band will play a few last shows and then call it a day.

I consider everyone involved in Gather a friend and comrade. After seeing their fanbase and support growing, it is sad to see Gather end.
I know that all those involved won't let this be the end of their involvement in hardcore or the struggle.

"For every life. For liberation!"

Gather's last show: 5/20 @ 924 Gilman.

stolen lyrics and weird weekends

How did Wes Eisold's lyrics get used by Fall Out Boy? How did he get credit?
Maybe an out-of-court settlement.

Right-wing humor

Here is a clever article on Fox's Half Hour News Hour and how right-wingers aren't funny.

The Half Hour News Hour was created by the same people that created 24.
Part of their reactionary culture creep.

In other right-wing culture creep, the movie 300 opens tomorrow in all of its homophobic racist glory.

MTV's White Hopes

MTV spits out bullshit "reality" show after bullshit "reality" show.
The vast majority of people featured in these shows are White and rich (even their show set in Hawaii features all White main characters!). These are our new gods. Worship at the altar of capitalism and Viacom!

WonderCon 2007

On Saturday March 3, I went to WonderCon (comic book, sci-fi, fantasy convention).
The last time I went to WonderCon was in 91 or 92.
It was a blast!

I tried to spend limited time around all the enticing exhibitor booths so as to not spend much money.
There was everything from comix to dvd's to toys to clothes to swords.
I did get an Avengers t-shirt.

My main goal was to get some books autographed by the great Arthur Adams.

There were a lot of great costumes. I wish I had gotten photos of more of them. I also wished I had gotten more photos of some of the nerdy fanboys.

and my favorite:

Mr. John Isaacson had a booth!
I ran into my high school friend Marlina who I had not seen in like 14 years!

A short conversation and photo were had with the somewhat lecherous Richard Hatch.

Lotsa fun!

Ungdomshuset

Some serious resistance is going on in Copenhagen.

I should also note that this must be sensationalist enough news for US corporate media to cover. My parents mentioned it as a reference point for anarchy.

Bono: Honorary Blackman

On March 2nd, Bono (of U2 and all around guy filled with self-importance) was in my area; Oakland.
He was chillin with Barbara Lee to urge action against the rise of AIDS in African-Americans.

That night Bono was in LA to receive the NAACP's Chairman's Award.
He was introduced by Tyra Banks, Chris Tucker, and the NAACP's Chairman. The Roots jammed 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)' (I didn't know Blackthought could sing).
Then Bono gave his acceptance speech. It was pretty moving. He had the audience on their feet hollering some call and response.
