Monday May 1: STRIKE!

Join immigrants, laborers, and fellow progressives & radicals in a show of solidarity and force!

This is a special call to anyone who has the security of legal residency, citizenship, and/or job security or wealth:
It is your duty to take to the streets for all of the poor or "illegal" who cannot!

animal liberation

I support animal liberation. I support the idea of people carrying out actions in defense of or support for animal liberation.
I cannot unconditionally support animal rights/liberation as a "movement."

As a "movement", animal liberation is akin to liberal feminism.
They both espouse general ideas that I do support. However, both fail to fundamentally challenge this system.
Like liberal feminism, animal rights/liberation is the playground of privileged bourgeoisie.

Moreover, animal rights/liberation relies too heavily on a moral component.
The images of non-human torture/subjegation evoke an emotional response that human torture/suffering/oppression cannot only because the images and information of human torture/suffering cannot be made public. This imperial system is far more reliant on human oppression than non-human subjegation.
State and corporate power rely directly on human oppression. A liberal altenative (such as vegan diet) cannot be offered for ending human opression.

If animal liberation seeks to place the subjegation of non-humans on par with the oppression of humans, it would have to fundamentally put as much energy and effort into both struggles (or both avenues of struggle).
However, simply from a strategic standpoint, if one desires to radically end the subjegation of non-human animals (and/or the living planet), the only means to accomplish this is through human liberation (otherwise one is simply seeking escapist consumer power).

FBI on the hunt in SF

The FBI, Assistant U.S. Attorney, and SFPD want video that 23 yr old anarchist blogger, Josh Wolf, filmed.

Under the guise of investigating who fucked some pigs up, the powers are trying to obtain this journalistic video and redefine journalistic protections.

A VERY important article on the subject was written by Ryan Blitstein.

Left Alliance

Bolivian President Evo Morales, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, and Cuban President Fidel Castro signed a comprehensive integration agreement and trade accord cast as an alternative to U.S. plans for a free-trade pact with the Latin American region.

The agreement will benefit the 3 countries econimcally and provide a strong alternative to U.S. & World Bank plans.

Dead Dolphins

Over 400 hundred dead dolphins washed up along the shore of Zanzibar's northern coast.
Sonar from U.S. submarines patrolling Africa's eastern coast could have been responsible.

New Direction

Gorilla Biscuits have reformed and announced a 5 week US tour.
(Walter will be taking part.)

108 have decided, after successful reunion shows, to reform and write new songs.

__________

"Pretending that they care about our scene just because our money's green."
"Back in the days when I'd wait to see the old bands play. It didn't seem like wasted days. I was so sincere, but now I see more clearly. Music's only work to them. It's not to me. So I say, hats off to bands that change. Good lick, go your own way. Why play for us, if your hearts not in it?"
-Gorilla Biscuits
_________

I am so sick of these reunions.
There is a reason why punk bands burn out faster than major label rock outifits.
Major label bands rely on the band as a job (look at The Rolling Stones). Now with the new influx of cash and attention on the punk/HC scene, people are coming back to get paid.
Maybe it could be looked at like veterans coming to collect on the dues they paid. I ain't buying it. If you want to get back into HC 10 years on, do it with a fresh start.

108 actually booked a DIY mini-tour playing small punk venues.
The band slept on floors and couches. They played with local bands.
That seems like a genuine care for the scene.

The likes of Gorilla Biscuits or Lifetime taint my HC memories.
I was there and I don't care if 18 yr olds now have a newfound interest in your old records.
If you want to do it for the kids, make new HC music. (And don't sign to Fall Out Boy's label.)

Fuck reunion shows!

Paramount has plans to make another Star Trek movie.
It will feature Spock & Kirk at Starfleet Academy.

North American news

Right after a show of force with massive marches, demonstrations, strikes, and rallies;
In one of the largest immigration crackdowns in recent U.S. history, 1200 undocumented immigrants were rounded up, detained, and/or deported.

____

Minutemen plan to construct border barriers!
They have already secured permission from landowners!

Here is their plan:
'Start with a 6-foot deep trench so a vehicle can't crash through; behind it, roll of concertina (coiled, razor-edged barbed wire), in front of a 15-foot high heavy-gauge steel mesh fence angled outward at the top.

Behind the fence will be a 60- to 70-foot wide unpaved but graded dirt road, along with inexpensive, mounted video cameras that can be monitored from home computers. On the other side of the road will be a second, 15-foot fence, with more concertina wire on its outside.'

Sounds like we will need to mobilize and destroy their work!

The Vows

Old ass straight-edge dudes, The Vows, have an ep coming out soon.

May Day! immigrant solidarity STRIKE!

Many immigrant, labor, and radical groups have called for a
national solidarity strike
on May 1st.

It is International Workers' Day, so you shouldn't be working anyway.
Let's take it to the streets!

immigrant solidarity

Again, I repeat:
There is NO illegal immigrant "problem!"

Economists told the New York Times that illegal immigration has had "only a small impact" on the income of U.S. workers.

DELETE THE BORDER!

NBC bought a flash drive on the streets of Afghanistan that contained "highly sensitive" US government information.
including:
-names and personal information for dozens of DOD interrogators
-interrogation methods
-photos of individuals tortured and killed

NBC won't release the photos or the information... because reporting real news would be too much for them.

email NBC and tell 'em we wanna see the bodies!

300: Frank Miller

Frank Miller's graphic novel, 300, is being made into a film.
It is the story of a Spartan army fighting to the death.

The film is going to go Sin City style and attempt to re-create the actual illustrated look of the book. (yuck)

immigrant solidarity: target

Right-wing talk radio host, Brian James, has suggested killing Latinos as they attempt to cross the border into USA.
He also suggested they be worth $100 a head.

Someone ought to find this guy...

____________________

I am so sick of headlines reading
'thouasands rally for immigration reform' or 'America divided over immigration'

Perhaps millions have rallied and demonstrated in support of immigrants.
I don't think "immigration reform" lends itself to what people were rallying for! "Immigration reform"? What needs to be reformed other than legalizing people (or smashing the border)? -Both of which are not on the government's table for "reform."

America divided??
That headline implies that there is some equal division.
If the divide is simply between immigrants & their communities and White communities with little direct contact with immigrants, then ok.
Hasn't it been demonstrated how much support immigrants (legal and illegal) have?!
You can bet that if this show of force was for something like fetus-loving Christians, the media would report it as if the millions did, in fact, represent EVERYBODY.

First world "struggles": PETA

Not too long ago, PETA launched a campaign inherently racist and insensitive towards the struggles of people of color (in particular Black people).

On the UC Berkeley campus, PETA exhibited their disregard for standing against racism while fighting for non-human liberation.

Now, right-wing fuckers at UC Berkeley are using the incident as fodder for their agenda.

bombs and shields

One of the best places to get news online is bombsandshields.
Here are some recent gems plucked from the site:

*Briana Waters, 30, of Berkeley, California was indicted on charges from the May 2001 fire that destroyed the University of Washington Center for Horticulture building, whish was claimed by the Earth Liberation Front (ELF).

*An estimated one thousand anarchists and other anti-fascist protesters, wearing motorcycle helmets and armed with iron bars, clashed with police outside the offices of a right-wing fascist group.

*Hundreds of Brazillian protesters, armed with handguns, gasoline bombs, sticks and stones, laid waste to the lobby of the headquarters of the Companhia Energetica de Minas Gerais (CEMIG) electric company while demonstrating against debt.

*More than 1,000 ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Jews flooded the streets of their New York neighborhood in a spontaneous demonstration against police brutality and harassment.
They held the streets for 4 hours, lit bonfires, injured police, and smashed windows on police cars.

if you don't play by the rules: Palestine

Elect your choice... As long as they do what WE want.

Khaled Abu Arafa, Palestinian minister of Jerusalem affairs, was kidnapped by Israel for attempting to open a government office.

The Palestinian Prime Minister publicly told his cabinet the Palestinan Authority is broke as a joke.
The US, Russia, European Union, & UN have threatened to cut off aid to the Palestinian Authority unless the leading party (Hamas) change its charter to suit the "quartet."

Israel attacked a Palestinian Presidential compound and continues to keep open the possibility of assassinating Palestinian government officials.

Joe Strummer would be proud

On the way to the airport, a man sang along to "London Calling" by The Clash in a taxi.
The taxi driver recognized this immediately as terrorist activity and reported it to authorities.
The singing man was removed from his flight and detained. He was later released having missed his flight.

"London calling at the top of the dial. After all this, won't you give me a smile?"

Just a few weeks ago, BART stopped all service because a patriotic citizen reported hearing two men say "bomb".

schools = prisons

Schools are performing "lockdown drills" using safety as an excuse to lock students in and instill irrational fear in them.

Similar to the 1950's "duck and cover" drills, these are based on some bullshit sense of safety.

Recently, to prevent students from joining protests, some schools locked students in.

At least that is what keeps getting shouted at me in the media.

anarchy in the real world

For security, Iraqis rely on "neighborhood watches."
In the absense of state security, Iraqis form informal groups to fend off enemy militias & death squads.

2 15-year-old boys are charged with malicious destruction of property, tampering with a public water supply and polluting the water supply, all felonies. They were also charged with trespassing.

Derek Jensen always said it could be that easy.

These kids have youth on their side as wll as not acting on behalf of any radical ideology.
Perhaps that presents a new tactic?
