attacks on women

Forbes.com recently hosted a piece entitled "Don't Marry Career Women" and listed the "Nine Reasons to Steer Clear of Career Women."
(At least the author saw marriage as simply a form of ownership.)

Christian nationalists are a politically powerful minority.

Here is a great article detailing their movement and how they use the courts to implement their fascist Christian nationalism.

sneaker pimps + sneaker ho's

Adbusters did a fabulous piece on Nike's success in co-opting skate culture and creating the sneaker fad.

"Nowadays it doesn't necessarily need to be special. As long as it's limited. people will wait in line."
-James Jebbia, owner of Supreme (Nike collaborator)

Nike manipulates demand simply by keeping numbers of shoes down.
Sneakerheads are not buying a product to compliment their lifestyle; buying product IS their lifestyle.

Trailer is up for All The King's Men starring Sean Penn & Jude Law.

Interesting film about politics, power, and the rural South.

If I could meet or talk to any actor, it would be Mr. Sean Penn.
He lives somewhere near me so maybe someday him and I can discuss politics, guns, and travel.

Struggle has a face : Philippines

The GMA regime in the Philippines continues to murder people involved in community work and organizing.

Reimon "Ambo" Morata Guran was a 21-year-old League of Filipino Students spokesperson at Aquinas University.
He lived his life for his people.

He was assassinated by a trained sniper in the back of a public bus.
He suffered gunshots to the head and heart.

The cap he was wearing

The iPod he was listening to

It is important for us here in the USA to speak and act out against these human rights violations in the Philippines; not just because the Philippines is a client state of the US but because if we raise enough attention here, the GMA regime might realize attention is being directed from outside and halt the killings.

Catch A Fire

Catch A Fire is a film set in 1980's South Africa. It follows the politicization of a Black worker from apolitical to guerrilla.

It looks very interesting and seems to be made very relevant to today.
I can only hope it shows not that one is simply brutalized into a life of terror but that armed struggle can be a just and rational decision.

know your enemy: Lee Kaplan

SF Weekly has an insightful article on Bay Area Zionist lunatic, Lee Kaplan.

Kaplan has the money and connections (David Horowitz & Bill O'Reilly) and firmly believes that any support of Palestinians amounts to terrorism and wanting to destroy USA.
He infiltrates anti-Zionist groups/events and shares information with Israel to bar people from entering that country.
(Isn't it illegal to aid a foreign government?)

foiled terror plot : bullshit

Keith Olbermann broke down how/why revealing the supposed terror plot on Aug.10 was motivated as a distraction and full of contradictions.

(Olbermann's real detailing behind the contradictions hopefully coming soon online.)

liquid explosives?! where!?

USA said it blocked the 'Greatest terrorist threat' since 9/11.

They tell us that some massive al Qaeda plot to blow up 10 jetliners with liquid explosives was thwarted.

Authorities banned all passengers headed to or departing from US airports from carrying on any liquid.

...Of course, NO arrests were made of these supposed conspirators! NO liquid explosives were found!

Massive worldwide delays in air traffic were caused though to remind us that a phantom menace still exists.

Thank you for the disruption.

alert!: Philippines

Right now in the Philippines, the Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo regime is terrorizing the people to retain its grip on power.

Grassroots organizers are being 'disapeared' and killed.
Offices of different grassroots organizations are being abandoned out of fear (or just survival).

CLICK HERE for a listing of some of the political killings of 2006.
(Pretty overwhelming and sad.)

This is real struggle!
For us here in the "First World" it is often easy to get caught up in philosophical discussions about what resistance might look like or what the "best" way to combat it will be.
We need only to look to the so-called "Third World" to see that our privilege rests upon very real situations and how those situations are being rebelled against.

The Filipino people are strong.
They have resisted imperialism for hundreds of years and have a deep culture of resistance.

long live Murray Bookchin

On 30 July, comrade Murray Bookchin died of heart failure.
He was 85 years old and had dedicated his life to libertarian socialism.

Murray Bookchin's life and work span two historic eras: the era of traditional proletarian socialism and anarchism, with its working-class insurrections and struggles against classical fascism, and the postwar era of growing corporate capitalism, environmental decay, statist politics, and the technocratic mentality. He has tried to congeal these sweeping changes in society and consciousness into a coherent outlook that goes forward from a lived past into a liberated future.
Bookchin's writings & critiques were always relevant to the Left and continue to be relevant.
