from T(I)NC

I don't know what's going on in the world of The (International) Noise Conspiracy and, to tell you the truth, I grow less and less concerned. However, at least two bands have recently emerged from T(I)NC.

The Blessing
(essentially the whole band sans Dennis playing blues rock)

AC4
(Dennis and some other Swedish allstars playing punk rock)

"thieves, liars, and self-serving scumbags"

As suggested previously, the rightwingers and liberals are in a flurry of shouting "not one of ours" regarding Joe Stack.

In a social landscape where neither end of the tiny spectrum of mainstream accepted political ideology possesses a narrative that can actually analyze the motivations of Stack, they just shout a quick accusation of lunacy and then ignore all nuances.

The only difference between how the GOP and the Dems handle the rage and frustration of folks like Stack is that the Dems ignore them and write them off as unacceptable partners while the GOP target them, their energy, and embrace them into their fold (and more importantly, into their narrative).

It was interestingly put by Gawker:
When someone who hates taxes and the government kills people, he's a lone nut and anyone who says otherwise is a disingenuous liberal. When a Muslim who hates the war in Afghanistan kills people, he's part of a sophisticated international terrorist conspiracy and anyone who says otherwise is a traitor. The same people who are so strenuously declaiming that anti-tax rhetoric and ideas had nothing to do with his crime were literally days ago shouting that the Alabama professor who shot up her tenure committee was a "'far-left political extremist who was 'obsessed' with President Obama'"—as though we are at risk of a rash of gun crimes from Harvard-educated lefties.

Hamid Gul

Al Jazeera posted an incredibly insightful and interesting interview with Hamid Gul.

Lieutenant-General Hamid Gul was a military commander in the Pakistani Army in the 1980s, and served as the head of the country's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency from 1987 to 1989.
He was eventually credited with defeating Soviet military and political forces during the Pakistan-Saudi-US effort to keep funds and logistical support flowing to the Afghanistan mujahidin.
Of course, those same actions now color him a terrorist in the eyes of the US government.

On Afghanistan:
They are sick of the influence of warlords and drug barons, and the continued American occupation...
The Americans are defeated...
In fact, more civilian casualties in military operations are going to weaken Karzai's position.
what US policy-makers are doing runs against the interests of the American people.

On "military contractors"/mercenaries:
The US is a heavily indebted nation so how are they going to afford this?.. The Americans can't take casualties, that is their problem. To compensate, they started employing security contractors, some 104,000 security contractors currently in Afghanistan.
What does this mean? Mercenaries to be used where troops cannot be deployed? We have already seen what mercenaries did in Iraq. The Americans are more and more inclined - because the US military cannot suffer casualties - to employ mercenaries, not just from the US but also from the local population.
This is a very dangerous trend if we are to believe that mercenaries can win wars and carry forward the political objectives of the country. This means that whoever has more money can employ more mercenaries, win wars, win territories, etc.

On Taliban:
I support their cause of Afghan resistance...
since the Taliban are representing the national spirit of resistance, I have given them my voice...
The Americans talk of freedom of speech, but apparently my speech hurts them because it counters their excesses...

I do not support terror at all, but jihad is our right when a nation is oppressed. According to the United Nations Charter, national resistance for liberation is a right. We call this a jihad.

Greek International?

European powers are beginning to take a keen interest in Greece.
If these capitalist powers weigh in on Greece's class war, what will it mean for Greek anarchy/anarchists?
If international involvement on behalf of Greece's capitalists/bureaucrats grows, how will international anarchists who have pledged support in words to Greek anarchy react? Will we continue to issue rhetoric of support safely from home?

"take my pound of flesh and sleep well."

As you undoubtedly know by the time you are reading this, Joseph Stack apparently burnt his house down and then flew a jet into an office building containing nearly 200 IRS employees.

He left behind a manifesto/suicide note that can be read in full HERE.

People are already latching onto his anti-government tone and disgust with the tax system and calling his action a result of or linked to the Tea Party Movement. After reading his statment, I would have to disagree.
To generalize, Stack seems like a typical American waking up to the realizations of this system's intended inequalities and not having any clear direction for action.

"... there has never been a politician cast a vote on any matter with the likes of me or my interests in mind.
Why is it that a handful of thugs and plunderers can commit unthinkable atrocities (and in the case of the GM executives, for scores of years) and when it’s time for their gravy train to crash under the weight of their gluttony and overwhelming stupidity, the force of the full federal government has no difficulty coming to their aid within days if not hours? Yet at the same time, the joke we call the American medical system, including the drug and insurance companies, are murdering tens of thousands of people a year and stealing from the corpses and victims they cripple, and this country’s leaders don’t see this as important as bailing out a few of their vile, rich cronies. Yet, the political “representatives” (thieves, liars, and self-serving scumbags is far more accurate) have endless time to sit around for year after year and debate the state of the “terrible health care problem”. It’s clear they see no crisis as long as the dead people don’t get in the way of their corporate profits rolling in."

There are some indications of perhaps a rightwing influence in Stack's writing. He mentions attending "tax code readings" which have been popular with libertarian capitalists. He also disses unions and sympathizes with the middle class. Both of those sentiments resonate with the right. However, it is very interesting (and perhaps unexpected) to note his very non-rightwing sentiments.

"...there are two “interpretations” for every law; one for the very rich, and one for the rest of us..."
"I didn’t trust big business to take care of me"

Towards the end of his writing, he spends a good deal of space writing about his struggle to make a difference. Those only resulted in failure. I think this is typical for Americans so divorced from direct political struggle. I am curious how (or if) his futile attempts at reform/change will be analyzed by the corporate media. To be honest, I doubt it is worth it to present a progressive/radical critique to counter whatever is spewed forth.

Eventually Stack comes to the realization that this system only responds to violent force. He also seems to allude to the idea that only when things get worse will people demand real change.

"But I also know that by not adding my body to the count, I insure nothing will change. "

"I can only hope that the numbers quickly get too big to be white washed and ignored that the American zombies wake up and revolt; it will take nothing less. I would only hope that by striking a nerve that stimulates the inevitable double standard, knee-jerk government reaction that results in more stupid draconian restrictions people wake up and begin to see the pompous political thugs and their mindless minions for what they are. Sadly, though I spent my entire life trying to believe it wasn’t so, but violence not only is the answer, it is the only answer."

He then ends it in a most surprising way.

"The communist creed: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed."

Will the right reject this "terrorist" and use the last passage to link him to socialism? Because I have a feeling that if he just espoused Tea Party rhetoric, Glenn Beck and the like would place blame at Obama's feet.

40 Days Of Bullshit

Today marks the start of "40 Days for Life," a campaign of escalated harassment outside targeted reproductive health clinics. Anti-choice bullies are working to turn out folks at clinics in the US, Canada, Australia, and Northern Ireland.

There is a list of targeted clinics on the "40 Days for Life" website. If they are showing up in your area, defend the clinic, the people visiting the clinic, or just go make fun of the anti-abortion idiots.

They are supposed to be praying and fasting, so they will be weak and distracted.

Winnie Mandela Biopic?

Jennifer Hudson is reportedly playing Winnie Mandela in the upcoming film, Winnie.
However, Winnie Mandela has threatened legal action against the film.

I am curious how Hollywood will seek to sanitize the life and struggle of comrade Winnie Mandela.
Winnie was a strong fighter against apartheid and knew that victory would only be achieved with a fight.

Be Careful What You Say Of The Pigs

Assassinate Arpaio?
Well, the supreme fascist douchelord of Arizona might deserve it and I think any "Assassinate Arpaio" banners and slogans are funny but...
Be cautious.

If Arpaio and his law can pinpoint this on any person or group, they will vamp hard (even Bash Back got sued). Someone was recently arrested for making empty threats against pigs on the internet.

Future Map of USA

Using public info from FaceBook profiles, this map was made. It shows areas of geographic "connection" and socio-political/religion affiliation. It is actually a very interesting read.
Perhaps as the federal government and the states exert less and less real power, this is how we will find ourselves organized.

Rightwing v. Captain America

Sporting Nationalism

I detest the Olympics. However, I love football/soccer and even its international tournaments such as The World Cup. Even more than the Olympics, I hate Christopher Hitchens.

However, he wrote an interesting piece about nationalism and competition in sport. The reason the article is decent is probably because he quotes, at length, George Orwell. I think douchelord Hitchens unfairly singles out soccer in his attempt to discredit the fuckin' Olympics but what do you expect?

Of course, we live in a nationalistic world. Sport doesn't cause nationalism. It is simply a reflection of it. Sport can also widely be seen to show off decadent individualism (even among team sports).

"Laramie"

There's a burning cross on a hillside.
Still bright after all these years.
And you want to just smile and ignore it, but I hear your fucking fear.
I don't believe that anything's changed, at least not for the better.
I don't believe that anything's changed, and nothing's getting better.
Dead words from a different time still can boil blood,
still have the power to crucify on a fence in America.
And the words you say are still smoldering.
And those crosses are still burning.

Open Source Warfare

14 key features that define a successful insurgency

  1. Many body: There are many more autonomous insurgent groups operating within conflicts than we had previously thought. For example there are 100+ autonomous groups operating in Iraq (as of 2006).
  2. Fluidity: The insurgents are loosely grouped together to form fluid networks with short half-lives. This is very different from the rigid hierarchical networks that have been proposed for insurgent groups.
  3. Redundancy: If we remove the strongest group from the system another group will rise to replace the previous strongest group
  4. Splinter: When a group is broken it does not generally split in half but instead shatters into multiple pieces
  5. Redistribute: When a group is broken the components are redistributed amongst the other groups in the system. The redistribution is biased towards the most successful remaining groups.
  6. Snowball: The strongest groups grow fastest
  7. Tall poppy: The strongest groups are the predominant targets for opposition forces
  8. Internal competition: There is direct competition amongst insurgent groups for both resources and media exposure. They are competing with each other in addition to fighting the stronger counterinsurgent forces.
  9. Independent co-ordination: Autonomous groups act in a coordinated fashion as a result of the competition that exists between them.
  10. Emergent structure: Attacks in both Iraq and Colombia become ‘less random’ and more coordinated over time
  11. Evolution: The strategies employed by the groups evolve over time where successful groups/strategies survive and unsuccessful strategies/groups are replaced.
  12. High dimensional: Connection occurs over high dimensions (i.e. Internet, cell phone etc) and is not dominated by geographic connections.
  13. Non-linear: It is approximately 316* times harder to kill 100 people in an attack than it is to kill 10 people. (*Results for a conflict with alpha=2.5).
  14. Independent clones: the fundamental structure and dynamics of insurgent groups is largely independent of religious, political, ideological or geographic differences.

- Feb.17th is Dream Day in Oakland paying tribute to TDK graff king, Mike Dream. Peep this Complex article on Mike Dream.

- Microsoft refused to sell Xbox 360s to the US military for training because, among other reasons, it would taint the image of the Xbox.

-Google is removing mp3 blogs even though they may not be breaking any law and certainly have not been convicted of any crime. Sorry, Google. Everyone knows free music sounds better and we will find ways around you.

-As bike thefts increase (along with usage of and demand for bikes), bike riders are showing how we can be just as, if not more, effective as police. Street justice!

- Egypt's football coach, Hassan Shehata, made clear that he would not be moving to coach Israel:
"From the moment I was born I have been hearing about the Israel that murders Arabs, that bombs, that levels towns and villages? but this is the first time I have heard that Israel plays football... "How can these Zionists think that I would take on the task of coaching a side that includes murderers of children and pensioners? How could I work to help a team that represents a nation of occupiers?"

Pacifism v. Defense v. Intimidation

I detest the pathology of pacifism. The article The nonviolent philosophy of clinic escorts made me think about the effectiveness of a not non-violence strategy. However, I just arrived at how bankcrupt it is to declare non-violence because a rejection of any pledge to non-violence in protecting a clinic or abortion seekers, it would just end in me possibly breaking the law (even if the anti-abortions fucks broke it first). It shows how "defense" can't even be as adequate as needed when up against an oppenent who has endeared themselves to the status quo.

This turned my mind to think about when Sacto SHARP provided escorts/security for clinics providing abortions in the 1990's. I think part of their success was a factor of intimidation. In turn, this turned my thinking to intimidation as a tactic. If I am completely honest, intimidation is a tactic that I often embrace but is it naturally hierarchical? Can intimidation be used as a means for progress or is it bound to a 'might makes right' attitude which itself ought to be rejected as an anarchist tactic?

... I think this is what they call prefigurative politics.

I would love to hear opinions.

Ojore Nuru Lutalo Update

CIA Serving Capitalism Directly

It's awesome that bombings in Afghanistan and Pakistan have recently been successful in exposing US forces where they have claimed not to be.
Where else are forces such as the CIA working?..

CIA Operatives are now moonlighting for the private sector.
No doubt these highly trained killers will be applying their tools to maintaining the financial sector's grip doesn't loosen. It shows where loyalty truly lies... With the real power.

Economics Are Not Neutral

Last month, Iinked to Murdering The Dead which illustrates how capitalism is not neutral and, in fact, facilitates disasters.

On a similar note, BroadSnark does a good job at showing how violence, while attributed to anarchists and other enemies of the state, is an integral part of our society. Our society wages wars, destroys cities, kills, and starves in its name... as if it were not violent.

Likewise, capitalists and Americans love to point to socialist systems and attribute deaths under those systems to the economic system itself. While it may be, at times, a fair accusation, those same finger-pointers would never be able to attribute the deaths facilitated or caused by free market capitalism to the economic system itself.
Even if privatization Killed a Million People in Eastern Europe since the 1990s.

Paranoia & the Arrest of Ojore Nuru Lutalo

64 year old Ojore Nuru Lutalo faces a felony charge of endangering public transportation and paid a $30,000 bond. Why?

-Passengers reported hearing Ojore Nuru Lutalo talk about al-Qaida and make "threatening statements" on his phone such as
''We have to work in small groups. They can hold you for 18 months." and ''17th century tactics won't work, we have 21st century tactics.''

-He was carrying was police described as propaganda for an anarchist group called Afrikan Liberation Army (aka literature picked up at the LA Anarchist Book Fair)
