The Dangers of Emo.

Some adults in North Dakota have discovered the greatest threat to MidWestern youth: "Emo!"

WATCH THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!

Apparently, it is all based on a point system that can be found online.
You have to have black hair, tight clothes, and cut yourself.

Luckily, the ND Sheriffs Dept is going to save us.

Fall Out Boy in Rolling Stone

Fall Out Boy got the new Rolling Stone cover story.

Not surprising since they are the current pop kings, down with Jay Z, and rich as fuck.
However, at least 2 of the members (including mastermind Pete Wentz) used to be involved in hardcore bands with radical politics. Racetraitor does get name dropped in the article.

The most impressive part of the cover story was from drummer Andy Hurley.

Andy has played in Racetraitor, Vegan Reich, and killtheslavemaster. In the Rolling Stone piece he breaks down a bit of radical anti-civ perspective:

More than anyone in the band, Hurley has stayed closest to his left-wing hardcore roots.

"My whole thing is I'm not into civilization as a whole," says Hurley, who's wearing a Starter-style jacket with the Public Enemy logo on the back. "The only actual solution is the eventual collapse and demise of civilization. . . . I think it needs to happen, but no one, not even me, really wants it to happen." It's not that hard for him to reconcile all this with his band's success. "Ultimately I am an employee of a corporation, and that's weird, and does contradict some of the things I believe in," he says. "But at the same time, I have to make a living."

So will there be rock bands after the collapse of civilization? "Probably not. Music would probably go. A lot of art would," he says, looking sad for a moment. "That's what I'm saying -- I'm really into comics and movies and video games, and I don't want to give that stuff up. At the same time I think it's filling the void for stuff that we're missing."

Sounds like an alright guy to me.
Given the way you know a magazine like Rolling Stone edits, I am surprised all of that made it to print.

Obama = Ahmadinejad

I just thought this was so insane I had to post it.

Barack Obama has been the target of character assassination from day one and it is only intensifying but this piece takes the cake. Apparently wearing a shirt and jacket with no tie links you to Iran's Ahmadinejad. haha

(please note: It was difficult for me to even find a photo of Obama in said outfit!)

documentary: Beyond Beats & Rhymes

Byron Hurt's hip hop documentary Beyond Beats & Rhymes is the most hard hitting and sharpest critique of masculinity within hip hop I have seen.
Hurt made the documentary after watching rap videos on BET and realizing they were all identical. He has been a life-long hip hop head, so this film wasn't made by some outsider.

The documentary examines masculinity, sexism, and homophobia within hip hop and hip hop's marketplace. The film places ultimate blame not (just) on the Black men perpetuating these conditions but the causes of the problems (oppression and money).
It is amazing that Hurt got as many excellent interviews as he did (not just with the likes of Jadakiss and Busta Rhymes, but the head of BET, and a lot of very insightful cats on the street).

The most alarming segment was probably on sexism with its footage of BET's Spring Bling. The attitude's displayed for the camera were frightening.

Beyond Beats & Rhymes forced me into a self-critique of my role as viewer and participant in these ultimately oppressive displays. I wish more men and women within hip hop would have the opportunity to see this film (not that many aren't already aware of the situation hip hop has been forced into as they explain in the documentary).

Philippine Army linked to murders

Well, of course they have been linked to the murders! Of course now it is an official government-backed commission linking them.

Well over 800 people have been assassinated and President Gloria Arroyo is still calling the army the "vanguard of freedom."

Padilla: "unfit" to stand trial

After three and a half years detained without trial or any real charges, Jose Padilla has been deemed unfit to stand trial due to suffering from intense stress and anxiety (aka torture).
The psychiatrist said Mr Padilla suffered from a facial tic, problems with social contact, lack of concentration and a form of Stockholm Syndrome.

So... The US government imprisoned this man for over three years, tortured him, and now he is unable to stand trial.
___

On May 8, 2002 Padilla was arrested and held as a material witness on a warrant stemming from the September 11, 2001 attacks.
On June 9, 2002, two days before District Court Judge Michael Mukasey was to issue a ruling on the validity of continuing to hold Padilla under the material witness warrant, President Bush issued an order to Secretary Rumsfeld to detain Padilla as an "enemy combatant."
Padilla was being detained without any criminal charges being formally made against him, he, through his lawyer, made a petition for a writ of habeas corpus. The government filed a motion to dismiss the petition.
On November 22, 2005, Padilla had finally been indicted on charges he "conspired to murder, kidnap and maim people overseas." (None of the original allegations put forward by the U.S. government three years ago, the claims that held Padilla in the majority in solitary confinement throughout that period, were part of the indictment)
One of the the three charges against Padilla was dismissed and another was dismissed in part... then the charge was reinstated.

Stop The Killings weekend

The Stop The Killings benefit took place in SF on 17 Feb. Over $2000 was raised for KARAPATAN.
The event raised awareness about the over 825 extra-judicial killings in the Philippines. Native Guns and Echo Of Bullets performed with a wide array of artists.

Also in SF that night, the Bay Area HC scene came together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Sammy Winston and Kristafawn. The money raised was donated to The Nick Traina Foundation.

movie review: The Omega Man

How was an old ass Charlton Heston such the hunky action hero of the 70's??
The Omaga Man stars ol' Chuck and I enjoyed the film quite a bit.

Basically, Chuck thinks he is the last healthy man alive after some chemical warfare destroyed the USA. It has something to do with commies but that wasn't clear.

The whole film is essentially a right-wing critique on civilization.
The bad guys are a hippy 'anti-civ' zombie cult and out to kill 'the man' to punish him for science and war. It goes to show that you really can't trust those manipulative radicals.
Even when Chuck's character is watching the concert film Woodstock, it shows clips that appear to be optimistically naive in a social Darwinistic world.

In the end, science wins out over anarchy or lunacy whichever you prefer but only after a blatantly Christian allegory.

This film is based on the novel I Am Legend and the film Last Man On Earth.
A new film based on the novel and The Omega Man starring Will Smith is coming soon.

Lifetime

I've ranted and raved quite a bit against reunion shows.
I am just always sceptical and don't like tainting good memories.
I had even refused to go to the first round of Lifetime reunion shows.

I sure didn't plan on going to see Lifetime this time.
Luckily, my good friend Ben Edge got me to go and helped get me in without paying.

Lifetime came onstage and made a call for all the older people to get up front and "take over."
I stayed back and intended to just enjoy watching the show.
It was only maybe 2 songs into it that 'Rodeo Clown' made my heart jump, my head was flooded with memories, and I had to race to the front to sing-a-long.

"Did you know that I kept that for a year? And all this time I figured you'd be here."

Lifetime used to be the soundtrack of my 4 hour drive to see a girl that eventually became my wife and eventually after that became my hated ex-wife.
Last night, screaming those lyrics and stage-diving, I somehow kinda reclaimed those songs for myself.

I didn't realize how much I remembered all those Lifetime songs.
I felt good to see a lot of folks I knew when I saw Lifetime for the first time in 1996.
It also felt good just to see so many friends not just from the Bay but from LA and Santa Barbara as well.

love goes out to all the 'family' and friends I got to say hi to.

thank you to Ben and Dan who got me into the show.

"Jihadists In Paradise"

Disney & Jerry Bruckheimer have acquired the rights to "Jihadists In Paradise".

The story details the rise of Islamic fundamentalists Abu Sayyaf in the Philippines. It follows the group of Islamic bandits via one of their leaders and his eventual assassination by the CIA and Filipino forces.

The story focuses on how Abu Sayyaf has affected Americans (including killings) and the US involvement in successful military operations against the group.
This is only going to drum up support for further US support for military action in the Philippines under the pretext of suppressing the scary Abu Sayyaf. However, US military presence in the Philippines is extremely unpopular amongst Filipinos and is used primarily not against Abu Sayyaf (who are an extremely small group). US military forces in the Philippines are used to target the largest threat against the Filipino ruling class and international capital: The New Peoples Army and the Communist Party of The Philippines as well as above ground democratic forces.

dead lizard

As I walked out of my apartment and into the rain I noticed this little creature.

He/she was dead on arrival. A little sad since someone probably stepped on him/her.
I didn't even know little lizards or amphibians like this lived here!

The Enemy Within

PBS's Frontline aired a great expose of the US government's bullshit attacks on supposed domestic Islamic terrorism.

The government hypes up cases using "al Qaeda", "network", and "terrorist" for what amount to little more than entrapment and attacks on immigrants.

Again and again, the FBI insists that the key is prevention and so long as there is intention- even if that intention is not (yet) realized- it is best to lock these people up on ANY charge.
They might as well enlist precogs!

SF Armory dungeon

Kink.com, which distributes videos on Hogtied and Men in Pain, bought the old State Armory in San Francisco's Mission District for $14.5 million. Now people are acting all bothered about it.

Peter Young = FREE

Peter Young was released from prison after serving a bullshit two year sentence for liberating mink in the midwest U.S.

Peter has been a major focus for animal liberation forces since his indictment.

200 to 300 demonstrators, with the "Radical Youth Bloc," broke through police lines in an attempt to rush the U.S. Capitol building on 1/27/07. Protesters got as far as the Capitol steps where anarchy symbols and various slogans including "you can't stop us," where spray-painted.
