immigrant solidarity: "backlash"?

Even before over a million people marched in support of immigrants, while the popular uprising was gathering steam, right-wing opposition was skeptical about our success and forever predicting a "backlash."

Already, right-wing Republican leaders are declaring a "backlash" against the show of force by immigrants and supporters!

There is NO backlash!
Immigrant communities have proved to have massive support.
There is NO immigration "problem" needing reform.
The right-wing created that idea (and "solution").

This is all in order for lawmakers to ignore the demonstrated will of the people in support of immigrant communities!
