MayDay: over 1 million strong!

More than 1 million immigrants and their supporters skipped work and took to the streets.
The nationwide boycott succeeded in slowing or shutting many farms, factories, markets and restaurants.

-over 400,000 marched in LA
-over 400,000 marched in Chicago
-over 50,000 marched in San Jose
-over 30,000 marched across Florida
Cities all across the country saw demonstrations in the hundreds or thousands.

Tyson Foods Inc., the world's largest meat producer, shuttered about a dozen plants and saw "higher-than-usual absenteeism" at others.
Goya Foods suspended delivery everywhere except Florida.
Some areas saw most all seasonal laborers not show up.
In LA, truckers avoided the nation's largest shipping port and about one in three small businesses was closed downtown.
1 in 4 students at Los Angeles Unified School District were absent.
_____________

Today was a show of great courage for immigrant communities who face real legal and financial implications.
The forces attacking immigrant communities are far less popular. We must never let them think otherwise.

_______________

Pres. Bush's reaction:
"The president is not a fan of boycotts," said press secretary Scott McClellan. "People have the right to peacefully express their views, but the president wants to see comprehensive reform pass the Congress so that he can sign it into law."

Comprehensive reform?!?!?
Until the lawmakers adopt the platform's demanded by marchers today, let there be no "reform!"
Their "reform" is only changes to benefit corporations and the extreme right-wing.
_____

Because of the surmounting odds facing immigrant communities, let today be a wake up call to the White left and anarchists.
The call has gone out... We must stand in solidarity with these communities and seek to eliminate laws that declare people "illegal."

i'm sick of white anarchists who act as if the struggles of third world peoples are too "liberal" for them to bother with. they can turn their heads away and believe that anything that isn't profoundly extralegal or romantically explosive is a waste of time because it doesn't affect their own sheltered lives. that's called racism.

i'm also sick of white rastas.

If anarchists (especially White anarchists) want excitement, they should go fight Minuteman!

Any White anarchist that is able to either ignore or sideline solidarity and defense of immigrant communities (which consist of some of the most oppressed and marginalized folks that we derive our privilege from) while prioritizing animal rights/liberation clearly has no revolutionary consciousness.
