A Day Without Latinos

In a real show of power, thousands of people across the country protested against xenophobic anti-immigrant legislation and attitudes.
In cities such as Los Angeles, Phoenix and Atlanta, there were school walkouts, marches and work stoppages.

In Phoenix, over 10,000 demonstrators marched to the office of racist Republican Sen. Jon Kyl and stopped traffic.
In Georgia, an estimated 80,000 workers did not show up at their jobs.
Milwaukee saw over 10,000 protestors.
Over 500 students walked out of class around LA while many other students were locked in to keep from joining.

More protests are planned.

Congress is considering bills that would make it a felony to be illegally in the United States and erect fences along one-third of the U.S.-Mexican border.
(The bills also impose penalties on employers of illegal workers... Of course, that would NEVER go through!)
Costa Mesa, CA is training its police officers to enforce federal immigration laws

With the rise in visibility of fascist militias like Minuteman Project and legislation such as the Patriot Act, immigrant communities are under attack.
