Proposition 8

Proposition 8 passed here in CA. A constitutional amendment to redefine marriage as only between one man and one woman.

This proposition sought to and succeeded in actively REMOVING rights from a segment of the population: homosexuals. They called it the Defense of Marriage Act. They were defending nothing! They were targeting people and removing their rights. It had NOTHING to do with restricting how religious heterosexuals define or practice marriage.
Of course, this whole thing was funded to the obscene tune of $35million primarily by Mormons and Catholics.

They acted, like all fascists do, as if they were under attack and acting in defense of tradition. The ads in support of the proposition to remove rights were full of lies such as suggesting that if Prop. 8 failed, gay sex would be taught in schools. (Of course, this ignores the fact that gay marriage was legal and gay sex was not taught in schools!) This whole campaign led by religion relied on scare tactics straight outta the 1950's. It was disgusting… and it worked!

The victory of Proposition 8 signals the power of not just money but of religion in California. We can't underestimate how dedicated our fellow Californians are to their fairy tales. As was suggested by a friend of mine, why not tax the churches in return? The very religious organizations that led this campaign and donated the massive funds to support it exist tax free. They actually get tax breaks from our government to operate!
We could also target the churches in different ways. What if Catholic churches and Mormon Temples/Stakes were physically attacked in response to their attacks on the people?

Marriage isn't exactly the most radical of institutions. I realize that. However, this is about defending an oppressed community. This is a great illustration of how ridiculous it is for self-righteous anarchists to make general demands that we don't vote. Whether or not homosexuals can marry isn't going to bring the revolution or collapse any faster but it will make the difference between people being able to visit eachother in the hospital, raise children, or take advantages of benefits that heterosexuals do.

TAX RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS!
BURN THE CHURCHES!

(Thank you Apple, Google, and Brad Pitt but I guess it just wasn't enough money to compete with Mormons.)
_____

Perhaps an alternative strategy would be to create a movement that embraces 'domestic partnership' that is truly equal to the rights and privileges of marriage for heterosexual couples as well as homosexual.
C'mon, Brad and Anjolie!

"Homosexuals are possessed by demons." HAHA - I would kick him in the balls.

Having been a California resident, and a supporter on equal rights for gay and lesbians, I am very dissapointed, I really thought it wouldn't pass.

I didn't have that much faith in the residents of CA. Outside of the Bay Area and L.A.( Even that area is a toss up) there are many bigots.

CA is hardly the progressive place that people label it.

This is what happens when you ask the majority to vote on a minority right.

While I agree that CA is not as progressive or tolerant as it is thought of by the rest of the country or as it likes to think of itself, it is a far cry from places such as Wyoming (which I am familiar with) or I presume Texas (where Dre lives).
