V

I HIGHLY recommend this film!

Also, read THIS interview with Alan Moore!
Moore surprised me with his radical politics.

Tell me when to go...

"V for Vendetta": i was entertained but kinda bummin on the politics. i'm not down with the putschist / insurrectionist views of revolution that Hollywood puts out. Don't get me wrong...i liked this as well as "Fight Club", but it kinda backward how these movies portray making "change" through an individualist and idealist perspective on creating systemic change.

Ghost ride the whip.

i mean, what's with First World views of struggle where we can have this "heroic" spectacle to "spark" revolution. i'm biased of course, but the Third World practice of solid mass organizing and building organs of people power through protracted mass and revolutionary work is what needs to be put out there. Especially when the Right is just looking for things like Fight Club and V to point at and say, "See, those radicals are crazy...they just want to blow things up." You can't jump from A to Z...better still, you can't shortcut from Step 1 to 100 with one monumental act to "inspire" the masses. It takes mass involvement and leadership. Gotta walk the mass line.

Shake them dreads.

After watching V i walked to Yerba Buena to check out the Black Panter: Rank and File exhibit. You have to check it out. i love that it emphasized their mass work and campaigns. That shit's inspiring.

What i really liked about V was it's challenge of heterosexism and the sharp anti-Bush post-911 commentary. Maybe the carrot was too close, but i loved it.

Stupid, dumb and hyphy.

I completely agree.

Hollywood (and American culture at large) promote individualism.
Their portrayal of rebellion/revolution is bound to reflect that.

I actually equate the "spark" idea a lot with Focoism. Foco was championed by Third World liberation struggles after Che.

I will say that even though most all of the real Anarchy was taken out of the story, it felt kinda nice to see someone supposedly like me on the screen. haha

Thanx for the comment, kasama.
