Rachel Ray, Dunkin Donuts, & Michelle Malkin

After pressure from Right-Wing Zionists, Dunkin Donuts pulled an ad featuring Rachel Ray. Why? Because Ray was wearing a scarf and that scarf looked a little too similar to a keffiyeh for the likes of self-hating Right-Winger, Michelle Malkin.

On the one hand, I don't mind folks like Malkin freaking out about keffiyehs. It is better than hipsters wearing the scarves oblivious to the socio-political emergency of Palestinians and their history of struggle. However, it does spell out that the right-wing is so fearful of losing European/American cultural hegemony that contemporary fashion which might be simply influenced by Palestinian/Arab culture becomes a threat.

When Dunkin Donuts pulled the ad, Malkin praised, ‘‘It’s refreshing to see an American company show sensitivity to the concerns of Americans opposed to Islamic jihad and its apologists.’’
"Apologists"- That just means anyone who attempts to question her blatantly flawed attack on a paisley scarf and Oprah's cooking protege.

Usual Suspects: New SF vegan/vegetarian restaurant!

This week, The Usual Suspects Cafe (re)opened with a loaded vegan/vegetarian menu!
(I think all items are vegan unless noted as containing cheese.)
It is located at 450 Broadway St. (between Kearny St & Rowland St) in SF- right near all the strip clubs.

The menu is similar to Herbivore's minus their wack Asian dishes and including panini. The dishes themselves are maybe more sophisticated than Herbivore and the portions we received were beyond enormous! The desserts included a strawberry/rhubarb cobbler and a peanut butter/caramel/chocolate cake (and not from Black China Bakery!).

The decor?.. Uh... A LOT of random odd art.

As this spot is new and has a friendly staff, I highly recommend checking it out ASAP!
Beware: It is CASH ONLY!

CO Fascists Attack Homosexuals

In Colorado, Christian Fascist groups Focus on the Family and Colorado Family Action are putting out bullshit ads equating banning discrimination against homosexual, bisexual and transgendered people with endangering children to sexual predators in public restrooms!

Their illogic is either well crafted fear-mongering or simply the result of the idiocy of provincial Christian fundamentalism.

I really don't know what to write... These people suck. They have far more influence that they would if people truly valued logic, equality, and "justice". It isn't like we can just hack their sites, attack their persons, or destroy their property.

World Soccer Daily & me

Everyday, I waste my lunch break away listening to the best football news source and show: World Soccer Daily.
It is an entertaining sirius radio show and podcast that provides the best news on worldwide football. The two hosts, Kenny and Steven might spend a bit too much time on Chelsea FC and the Premiership in general but you can't get this type of info anywhere else in the US (unless you spend all day searching the internet).
I highly recommend it.

To hype myself up...
On today's WSD show, Kenny read my email on air!
In the 30th minute, they read my criticism of their pro-police/pro-law & order stance. haha!

Happy Birthday Yuri!

Yuri Kochiyama turns 87 today.

One would be hard-pressed to find another person as dedicated to radical change as she has been over so many years.
She is a highly dedicated, very warm and friendly woman who has inspired many people I call my friends and comrades.

The Oakland Tribune did a nice write up on Yuri today.

Hip Hop = not fads

In this SOUL Purpose video, Mazzi takes issue with Jay Electronica and The Cool Kids. He basically takes issue with hipster hop in general as well as hipster khafiyeh wearing.

I don't know what beef he really gots with Jay Electronica since Jay is being heralded as the second coming of Wu-Tang or something. The repsonse trck by Mic Terror falls a little flat (and homophobic- not to mention that lame racist dis about Iraq).

FBI targets vegan potlucks

Apparently, the FBI is looking for informants to infiltrate vegan potlucks.
It is all a part of a deliberate, calculated, and coordinated effort to infiltrate radical groups and land “terrorism” convictions, even if it means breaking the rules and provoking criminal activity.

One activist approached by the FBI says,
"They wanted me to crash vegan potluck parties...They said “vegan potluck” half a dozen times. They really feared vegans and their violent conspiracies to blow up buildings in protest to the republican national convention."

Honestly, it is probably more of a compliment to be feared than ignored. Unfortunately, all the vegan potlucks I have recently been to focused more on iPhones, vegan blogs, or just playing charades than any criminal conspiracies.

It gets me wondering how much the feds visit blogs like Mel's Veglicious.

Elle Magazine ran some sensationalist trash story glorifying FBI agent provocateur, "Anna."

Someone tell me "Anna" and Elle were stupid enough to publish photos of this scum! Can't people just find her now and... uh...invite her to a potluck or a remote forrest?

In other douchebag news, rockstar chef Anthony Bourdain had this to say about vegetarians:
"These fucking people are not really all about us not eating duck liver. No, no, no. They don’t want us eating any animal product whatsoever... These people are the worst kind of terrorists. And they must be stopped.”
Someone ought to stop Bourdain... and not just from eating duck liver.

Something totally different:
In CA, one can no longer be fired for being a Communist.
I guess communists are no longer the threat they used to be.

In all seriousness, I can recall when I went to a job interview with known union-buster, Borders, and was asked my opinions on Karl Marx's writings. After getting the job, I removed or hid all commie buttons and patches on my clothes.

Hipster-itis

For a long while now, White hipster club (sub)culture has been permeating hip hop.
(A friend of mine always jokes that Black hip hop stars love to adopt White subculture looks after they are played out by Whites... Just like how it obviously works the other direction as well.)
The newest N.E.R.D. single/video, "Everyone Nose" is the pinnacle of White hipsterism married to hip hop. The jam is an ode to cocaine and the video... The video makes me think of 3 things:
1)Why the fuck is Steve Aoki not in there? 2)Does CobraSnake get royalties from NERD biting so hard? 3)Although it does borrow some aesthetics that I dig, how is all that shit cool?

60 years: يوم النكبة

Nakba Day (15 May) meaning "day of the catastrophe" is an annual day of commemoration of the Palestinian Peoples' displacement and dispossession. Palestinian refugees and their descendants are estimated to number over 4 million people.

The creation of the state of Israel was the result of a campaign of terror and ethnic cleansing by Zionist militias. For 60 years, Israel has maintained their apartheid system and genocidal policies towards Palestine. Today it continues in full strength with the lackey dog, Abbas (Abu Mazen), and the strangling of the world's largest prison/reservation/concentration camp; Gaza.

In San Francisco and many other cities, we will be celebrating Palestinian culture and struggle and commemorating the nakba. Come on by!
In Anaheim, Al-Awda is hosting their Convention.
(Big ups to Herbivore Restaurants for being a sponsor of the SF event!!)

Don't let the Zionists claim this anniversary with their myths and fables of some divine right to stolen land.

Kevin Tucker vs. APOC

An "anarcho-primitivist" zine, Go Light, was recently criticized by an Anarchist People Of Color (APOC) Caucus. Supposed White anarchist Kevin Tucker editor of Species Traitor and Black & Green threw his hat in the ring with a jaw-droppingly racist and liberal crit of The People of Color Caucus.

It is relatively old news in anarchist internet circles with much of the dialogue going to defend Kevin and pretend that race (and thus, racist oppression) doesn't exist. So I am hesitant to jump into the tired fray. I primarily do so to support anarchists of Color and to promote Harjit Singh Gill who wrote an EXCELLENT piece regarding the matter.

I agree with everything Harjit wrote and so maybe I don't even have much else worth typing.
I do think that Kevin's inane rant and the arguments in support of him suffer from one primary flaw that plagues anarchy like a cancer: unchecked privileged Whiteness. These White primies are so concerned with shrugging off the 'oppression' of responsibility, they reject all the decades of struggle against Whiteness WITHIN radical circles as simply Marxist/Leftist and thus bad.
If us White anarchists expect to be worth anything in a global fight against oppression, we are going to have to learn to listen to People of Color and allow them to take (at least some of) the lead.

Fuck Kevin Tucker! He is a privileged White Liberal. I eagerly await his visit to 924 Gilman St.

Glorious International Workers' Day!

It is May 1st aka MayDay aka International Workers' Day!

For the first time in as long as I can remember I will be working on MayDay... as the rest of the world takes it off and maybe lobs some petrol bombs in the direction of the state.
I feel kinda bad working on MayDay. I hate my job. It is making my life miserable. Things can look bleak when you have no plan to make them better. I ain't one to like accepting bad situations.

So here is to the Haymarket Martyrs! Here is to workers and the unemployed ("lumpen"?)! Here is to all my encouraging friends/family/comrades from Albany to Silver Lake to across the Pacific Ocean to Gilbert to right next to me in bed.

"Is there anyone thinking what I am?
Is there any other alternative?
Are you restless like me?"
