"NEW MORNING / CHANGING WEATHER"

fake Death Of A President

A film is coming out entitled Death Of A President.
The film is a fake documentary from 2008 about the assassination of George W. Bush in 2007.

I know little about this film aside from the minimalistic trailer.
However, it already smells like bullshit.

The film presents actual archival footage of people protesting Pres. Bush with accompanying narration from fake Secret Service telling us "this time it seemed to me there was real hate." Insinuating real-life protestors are driven by hatred and somehow associated with assassination.

This can only serve to fuel the reactionary agenda of stifling dissent and lend itself to calls for restricting protest for National Security.

Kazakhstan: come visit

Along with the new TV ads I see encouraging us to visit the wonderful nation of Kazakhstan, a top Kazakh official has now officially invited Sacha Baron Cohen to visit.

"I'd like to invite Cohen here," he said. "He can discover a lot of things. Women drive cars, wine is made of grapes, and Jews are free to go to synagogues."

Pig Attacks Two Gallants

Two Gallants recently played in Houston where they were attacked by a police officer while on stage.

Allegedly, the pig demanded they turn down the sound (the acoustic 2-piece was just too rockin' loud). Eventually one band member supposedly yelled an insult at the cop which led to a beating and taser.
Luckily, the crowd acted in solidarity with Two Gallants. A club full of hipsters should did make that pig obviously uneasy.
(I think that is how it went down... read HERE for a bunch of accounts, photos, and video.)

Galactica jump

Battlestar Galactica made its third season debut last week.
The series continues to be one of the best political dramas on television. This new season was surprisingly provocative for US television (as a blatant allegory of the Iraq war with "insurgents" and "suicide bombers" as the good guys).

Now Battlestar Galactica may make the jump to NBC as a mid-season replacement.

If it makes this move though, will it be able to retain its edgy-ness?

another Rambo

The next Rambo film has a title:
Rambo IV: In The Serpent's Eye

In the script, Rambo is recruited by Christian missionaries to fight Burmese soldiers and pirates.

This time Christian missionaries? Last time, the Taliban?

"This Is Sparta!"

I had my reservations about the film 300 based on the graphic novel.
I didn't want to see a copy of the Sin City movie.

The new trailer erased my doubts.
While this film is certainly not rooted in reality or historical accuracy, it looks AMAZING!

and using NIN?.. how extreme.

"we had abortions"

A significant victory for anti-abortion forces is the stigmatizing of the procedure.

I think it is crucial for women to not feel ashamed or stigmatized or pressured to keep abortions hidden or in the shadows.
Their partners must provide support for them.

Now some women are fighting back on this cultural front.
Ms. magazine is releasing its fall issue with a cover story titled "We Had Abortions," accompanied by the names of thousands of women nationwide who signed a petition making that declaration.

schedule: war against women

We are at war against women.
Our society propagates the brutalization and murder of women and girls.

It seems obvious to me... Apparently not though.

Just yesterday a man loaded up on ammo and went to an Amish school. He let all the boys leave. Then, he prepared to kill all the girls as payback for some wrongdoing he thought he suffered some 20 years ago. He killed several girls execution-style.

A couple days ago, an older man walked into a high school, sought several young women he had stalked online, held them hostage in a room, and began sexually abusing them until he killed himself and one of the women.

A few weeks back, a man walked onto a university campus and began killing women.
He singled out women because he felt he had been slighted by feminists.

Equally alarming as these blatant attacks against females is the social perspective on the killings.
I say equally alarming because the pervasive attitude IS the cause.
I heard such bewilderment in the media and government as to what could cause these men to act in such horrible fashion.
The answers were right there in front of our eyes but no one looked at them.

TV On The Radio

There aren't enough interviews with TV On The Radio.
Here is one:

"The most important drum in Afrobeat is not a drum, it's the hi-hat. Because it hypnotizes. And that's what people identify with. It syncs with their heartbeat."
