A US video game has pissed off Venezuela for depicting an invasion of that country.

A Dutch video game-based movie is being used by Islamic militants as a recruiting tool.

border wars

The US government is pissing off Mexicans with the militarization of the border.
This is turning into growing support for left-wing Mexican presidential candidate, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

If elected, Lopez Obrador could solidify a growing leftist bloc in Latin America challenging USA's hegemony.

National Review is full of lies

The National Review’s bullshit story on global warming being a myth, has several serious errors, distorted evidence, and omissions.

What if it was ok for Iran to have nuclear energy?

It used to be.

Bin Laden: Moussaoui had no 9/11 role

Assuming his audience's intelligence much more than the US government does, bin Laden explains how Moussaoui had no role of or knowledge of the attacks on 9/11/01.

It makes perfect sense to anyone understanding warfare.

It was just cleverly placed neo-con lies.

Again, AFI have taken their music in a very different direction. I suppose that should be expected.
I was hoping for something as epic as Sing The Sorrow... It certainly is not.
Overall, I enjoy the album quite a bit.
Most of the songs have a much slower tempo than past AFI and those slower songs are much stronger than the faster ones.
The album has a distinctly 80's pop feel mixed with what I can only describe (at this early juncture) as reminiscent of the band Thursday and a lot of very AFI style vocals and guitar trickery.
The problem with that pop sensability is that a lot of contemporary pop that I despise (i.e. Fall Out Boy) borrows from the same HC pool that AFI grew from.
The production is top notch (assuming that I have only heard a rough mix and the guitars get turned up) and AFI's increasing use of electronic sounds/drums fits very well throughout the album.

Know your enemy: John Gibson

John Gibson, host of The Big Story on FoxNews gave an insanely racist rant about how White people need to have more babies because soon the majority of the population will be non-White immigrants.

You have to see him to believe it!

Even his clarification, in hopes of proving he is not racist, was absurdley racist and xenophobic.

I don't think John Gibson is fit to live.

border walls

The US Senate has approved building a massive wall along the USA/Mexico border.
Pres. Bush wants National Guard to patrol the border.
So, the effective militarization of the border is happening.

I remember in the early 90's I was involved in tracking White supremist groups. One of their major tenets was securing the border with Mexico.
The White supremist groups would organize border patrols and advocate building a wall between the 2 countries.
These groups were viewed with as extremists. Now, their programs are supposed moderate positions!

The only reason our border with Mexico is being focused on as a "problem" is 1)at the urging of right-wing fascists, The Minuteman Project 2)as a distraction from real problems affecting this administration.

Most Americans polled supported immigrants and massive immigrant solidarity marches/demonstrations took place across the entrie country.

What was Pres. Bush's response?
Acting as if appeasing all sides involved, he adopted a position championed by Bill O'Reilly!

In the 1970's, appointed Pres. Gerald R. Ford extended executive privilege, which shielded those involved from testifying publicly, to the telecommunications companies on the recommendation of then chief-of-staff Dick Cheney and then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld.

So, don't expect the same bunch to force telecommunications companies to give us any info.
__

BellSouth & Verizon have denied accusations of helping the government spy..
Or have they?

Their carefully worded denials actually deny nothing.

Neither the government nor their business friends will ever offer up evidence of legal or extra-legal spying.

target: Iran

What if the US government's real concern was not Iran's nuclear capability?
What if that was just a facade to get the media to pick up that spin and turn it into support for war with another country?

Then, what if the US could pin responsibility on yet another country that they dislike?

onward Christian fascists

Right-wing Christian Fascist youth have been showing strength in the San Francisco Bay Area and across the country.
These Christian fascists make their fundamentalism seem hip and militaristic to attract and train teenagers.
On their websiteinvitation to the rally was “on the very same steps where just months ago gay people were married”.

Battlecry a Christian Youth Organization held another rally at SF City Hall (and various other City Halls across the country).
They demanded an end to secular education and to teach Biblical law.
They also seek to protect men from the sin of sexual temptation (and masturbation).

Battlecry also held a two day event at SF's SBC Park that attracted 25,000 people.
Along with musical groups, the event featured the Navy Seals, an Oakland Raiders quaterback, Miss Black California, and images of automatic weapons, a Hummer on stage displaying a red revolution style flag, military fatigues and dog tags.
Battlecry say "they are building an army for God."

It is a multi-million dollar operation that sends over 5,000 missionaries to more than thirty-four countries each year and has friends in VERY high places.

We must fight these Christian fascists any time they attempt to show their faces!

online celebrity: MySpace + Playboy

The only thing worse than a celebrity is an online wanna-be celebrity!

Playboy is featuring a 'Girls Of MySpace' feature in the June issue of the magazine.
MySpace is not taking an active role in the feature but has sold Playboy MySpace advertising.

Playboy has "been overwhelmed with the number and quality of submissions".
Playboy recognizes how hot a cultural property MySpace has become and only asks that the applicants be 18 or over.
______________

I find it unfortunate that a despicable business such as Playboy has been able to easily insert itself into the largest community website.
I don't doubt that a large portion of MySpace users have no qualms with Playboy.
The problem is that what could be used as a more-or-less peer-to-peer "communication" tool so easily supplants that "communication" with the seeking of approval as deemed by the unreal standards set by Playboy.

_____________

fight : UFC anarchist!

fight : WWE / UPN racism

Professional wrestling has a long history of playing to jingoist reactionary politics.
Recently, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) cut off a man's wrestling career out of sheer racism.

Mark Copani, known in the WWE as Muhammad Hassan, is half Jordanian and half Italian.
The angle of his Arab WWE Hassan character was outrage at the stereotypical portrayals and oppression of Arab-Americans after 9/11/01.
The world of pro wrestling is no stranger to racist stereotypes. Stereotypes have often been used to cast chartacters in a negative light.
Casting Hassan as a "heel" (bad guy) was more insipid though for it suggests that standing against prejudice, stereotypes, and oppression is wrong or bad.

Copani stopped giving praise to Allah after complaints from Muslims (he is not a Muslim).
His matches still invoked Islamic references.

The week of the 7 July 2005 London bombings, UPN told WWE they did not want Hassan on that week's program.
UPN then told WWE they intended to edit Hassan's speech where he reiderates that he is an Arab-American and not a terrorist. WWE decided to pull the segment and only air it on their website.

Hassan had apparently been booked as the winner in his #1 Contender's match and set up for a championship match.
However, due to not being allowed on the show, another wrestler was booked instead.
The HAssan character was then involved in an injury that allowed him to be written out of the WWE.
Copani was then dropped by the company.

science for war

immigrant solidarity: "backlash"?

Even before over a million people marched in support of immigrants, while the popular uprising was gathering steam, right-wing opposition was skeptical about our success and forever predicting a "backlash."

Already, right-wing Republican leaders are declaring a "backlash" against the show of force by immigrants and supporters!

There is NO backlash!
Immigrant communities have proved to have massive support.
There is NO immigration "problem" needing reform.
The right-wing created that idea (and "solution").

This is all in order for lawmakers to ignore the demonstrated will of the people in support of immigrant communities!

MayDay: over 1 million strong!

More than 1 million immigrants and their supporters skipped work and took to the streets.
The nationwide boycott succeeded in slowing or shutting many farms, factories, markets and restaurants.

-over 400,000 marched in LA
-over 400,000 marched in Chicago
-over 50,000 marched in San Jose
-over 30,000 marched across Florida
Cities all across the country saw demonstrations in the hundreds or thousands.

Tyson Foods Inc., the world's largest meat producer, shuttered about a dozen plants and saw "higher-than-usual absenteeism" at others.
Goya Foods suspended delivery everywhere except Florida.
Some areas saw most all seasonal laborers not show up.
In LA, truckers avoided the nation's largest shipping port and about one in three small businesses was closed downtown.
1 in 4 students at Los Angeles Unified School District were absent.
_____________

Today was a show of great courage for immigrant communities who face real legal and financial implications.
The forces attacking immigrant communities are far less popular. We must never let them think otherwise.

_______________

Pres. Bush's reaction:
"The president is not a fan of boycotts," said press secretary Scott McClellan. "People have the right to peacefully express their views, but the president wants to see comprehensive reform pass the Congress so that he can sign it into law."

Comprehensive reform?!?!?
Until the lawmakers adopt the platform's demanded by marchers today, let there be no "reform!"
Their "reform" is only changes to benefit corporations and the extreme right-wing.
_____

Because of the surmounting odds facing immigrant communities, let today be a wake up call to the White left and anarchists.
The call has gone out... We must stand in solidarity with these communities and seek to eliminate laws that declare people "illegal."
